FOUR HAWKS SCORE IN DOUBLE FIGURES WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN LINCOLN

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team competed in their first road showdown of the young season against Southeast Community College Wednesday night in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Hawks took a commanding victory by a final score of 88-53.

Northeast (2-0) jumped ahead early and never looked back as they led 45-17 at the halftime break. Four different players for the Hawks scored in double figures as Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) had 27 points, Mia Wiederin (Norfolk, Neb.) and Vilique Fallis (Rapid City, S.D.) each tallied 17 points while Maikole Carlow (Pine Ridge, S.D.) added 10 points of her own. Northeast has now outscored their opponents 180-98 through two contests this season in two wins.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on how the night played out:

"We played a solid first half, particularly on the defensive end of the court," Svehla said. "We got control of the game in the middle of the second quarter. Winning on the road can be tough, but we got the job done."

Svehla on the weekend ahead for his team:

"Saturday we are matching up with an always tough Cloud County team," Svehla said. "We will need to bring our best effort."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will return home and will take on Cloud County Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
