NO. 2 IOWA WESTERN TOPS NORTHEAST IN SHOWDOWN WEDNESDAY NIGHT

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team returned to the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk Wednesday night after a week away for a battle with No. 2 Iowa Western Community College. The Reivers took the contest by a final score of 74-47.

Northeast (9-12, 6-7 ICCAC) fell behind early and struggled to find consistency during the showdown. The Reivers were able to slow down Allison Richards (Pine Ridge, S.D.) as the sophomore did enter double figures with 12 points on the night, but that was her fewest point total since November 11 against Cloud County Community College in what has been a fantastic season for the guard. The Hawks lost by just four points to the strong Iowa Western squad in the first meeting of the pair but will now shift their focus back to the road entering the final month of the regular season.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the matchup against the second-ranked squad in the nation:

"Tough night," Svehla said. "We got down early 17-2 and didn't have an answer for them on the boards. They got into the lane too easy on us and I thought that we didn't compete like the way we needed to compete. Too many offensive rebounds and too much lane penetration."

Svehla on taking on Marshalltown next:

"Road trip," Svehla said. "Anytime you go on the road in this league those teams are good enough to present problems for us. We are going to have to play well."

The Hawks will return the road to take on Marshalltown Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Marshalltown, Iowa.
