NORTHEAST MOVES TO 3-1 IN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH VICTORY OVER SOUTHWESTERN

CRESTON, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team traveled to Southwestern Community College for a matchup Wednesday night in Creston, Iowa. The Hawks secured a 74-70 victory to improve to 3-1 in the ICCAC.

Northeast (6-6, 3-1 ICCAC) had another terrific offensive output from both Amber Lawson (Wynot, Neb.) and Allison Richards (Pine Ridge, S.D.) as Lawson tallied 22 points and Richards put in 19 of her own. The pair combined for 45 points last Saturday against Marshalltown Community College and now have had 86 points between the two of them in the last two Hawks contests. Northeast has now started their conference slate with wins over Iowa Lakes, Marshalltown and Southwestern in four games and will have the opportunity to move to 4-1 in Region 11 at home Saturday against North Iowa Area Community College.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the victory and looking ahead to Saturday:

"We played very up and down tonight," Svehla said. "We need to work on our consistency, but playing on the road can be tough, especially at semester break time. The girls did a good job of securing the win. Our last game before break is Saturday and we will need good focus and effort."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will end the semester with at battle against North Iowa Area Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
