LAWSON RECORDS 12 POINTS AS HAWKS FALL TO KNIGHTS IN OVERTIME

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team put a bow on a week that saw them play three times in five days Saturday afternoon in a contest with North Platte Community College at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks dropped the matchup by a final score of 72-65 in overtime.

Northeast (2-4) was led in scoring for the fifth-consecutive game by Allison Richards (Pine Ridge, S.D.) as she had 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in the battle. Stevi Fallis (Pine Ridge, S.D.) continued her excellent season by adding 21 points of her own and Amber Lawson (Wynot, Neb.) entered double figures for her first time in a Hawks uniform with 12 points.

It was the best day so far this year at the free-throw line for Northeast as they were 13-14 from the charity stripe. The Hawks led 55-52 with just eight seconds remaining in regulation before a turnover by Northeast, an intentional foul call on the Hawks, a made free throw from the Knights, a missed free throw from North Platte, a Knights rebound and a North Platte layup at the horn after a timeout sent the Hawks into their second overtime duel in their last two bouts. The shift in momentum from what looked to be a sure victory in regulation proved to be too much for Northeast as the Knights cruised in overtime to capture an unlikely triumph.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla's overall thoughts on the afternoon:

"This is a tough loss," Svehla said. "It looked like we had this game on ice in regulation, but things down the stretch just did not go our way. This game should not have gone into overtime, but it did. We will need to regroup and get ready for the next one."

The Hawks will hit the road for one final ballgame before the Thanksgiving break and will take on Southeast Community College at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lincoln, Nebraska.
