RICHARDS EXPLODES FOR 35 POINTS AS HAWKS FALL IN TIGHT CONTEST TO BOBCATS

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team was back at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk Tuesday night for a showdown with Southeast Community College. The Hawks were topped in the late stages to the Bobcats by a final score of 79-74.

Northeast (0-2) was led on the night by 2022-23 First Team All-Region performer Allison Richards (Pine Ridge, S.D.) as the sophomore tallied 35 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in the duel. Richards was joined in double figures by Stevi Fallis (Pine Ridge, S.D.) who added 18 points after totaling 19 on Friday night against Northeastern Junior College.

The Hawks led by as much as 10 with 2:12 remaining in the third quarter and evened the matchup at 74-74 with 42 seconds left in the contest on a 3-pointer by Richards. Southeast went on to make five free throws in the final 30 seconds to escape with a narrow victory.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the play from Richards and Fallis and how his team faired tonight:

"We battled and led the majority of the game but just didn't get it done down the stretch," Svehla said. "Allison had a strong first half for us and Stevi scored well in the second half, but we just didn't get the stops or hit the shots down the stretch. Tough loss, but we will put it behind us and get ready for the next one."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will travel for the first time this season and will take on Cloud County Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday in Concordia, Kansas.
