NORFOLK, Neb. – Northeast Community College Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla announced on Wednesday the addition of four student-athletes to the 2019-20 recruiting class.
Kelly Kleffner | 5-7 | Combo Guard | Spalding Academy High School | Spalding, Neb.
Kleffner led her team in scoring, steals, assists and three-point shooting, while being named a First Team Goldenrod Conference member.
"Kelly is a solid athlete who can play the point position, but also has the ability to the two spot," Svehla said. "She has three-point shooting potential and good strength and toughness as she averaged more than six rebounds a game. I like the package that Kelly brings because she can contribute in different areas."
Julia Carbonell | 5-9 | Guard | BF San Adria | Barcelona, Spain
Carbonell joins the Hawks women's basketball team after playing for a prominent club basketball team, BF San Adria. Former Hawk Irene Sanz also played for BF San Adria.
"Julia is a versatile guard who can play the two or three position," Svehla added. "She possesses a good basketball IQ, is a solid defender and can knock down the three-point shot. Julia's club team is always competitive and very well coached. Julia will bring a good understanding of basketball to our program and she is a poised player."
Elisabeth Matas | 5-6 | Guard | Geieg Girona | Girona, Spain
Matas led her team as the starting point guard to a runner-up finish at the 18U nationals in Spain.
"Beth is a dynamic point guard who helped lead her team to the 18U national finals in Spain," Svehla said. "She has the ability to be a floor general, but she can also be a scorer. She is very comfortable shooting the 3-pointer and she was one of the main scorers for her team. Beth can bring a good leadership and competitive experience to our program."
Katarina Zagorac | 6-1 | Power Forward | Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj | Novi Sad, Serbia
Led her team to a regional championship and went on to place second at the national level.
"Katarina will bring some needed size to our roster," Svehla said. "She is a power forward who can post up, but also be a threat facing up. Katarina gained good experience playing alongside 6-foot-9 standout Jelena Mitrovic, who is heading to Oregon State University, and that experience should help her in our program. Katarina can help us on both ends of the court."
The Hawks kick-off their 2019-20 campaign against Northeastern Junior College at 6 p.m. Nov. 2 in Norfolk.
