Despite a slow start, the Hawks (12-8) outscored the Raiders in the final three quarters, thanks to a 14-point performance from sharp-shooting sophomore Irene Sanz (Vilassar de Mar, Spain). Sanz sank three 3-pointers, while recording five rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Lauren Hunstad (Parker, S.D.) continued to be a strong presence on the floor in her second year with the Hawks. She added 13 points and four rebounds. Teagan Pompa (Elgin, Ill.) and Caitlin Orton (Mills, Neb.) chipped in nine points. Orton had a near double-double with 11 rebounds and three steals in 20 minutes of action.
Northeast jumps back into conference play on Saturday night, hosting Marshalltown Community College for a 5 p.m. tip-off at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
