Northeast women unable to knock off New Mexico Junior College
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team had a tough time getting to the basket on Saturday, dropping an 83-46 contest to No. 7 New Mexico Junior College at the Iowa Western Classic in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Down by five points after the first quarter, the Hawks (6-6) managed to chip away at the Thunderbirds' lead early in the second quarter after a three-point play from Irene Sanz (Vilassar de Mar, Spain).
The second half was a different story as New Mexico Junior College allowed just 19 points in the third and fourth quarters combined to Northeast. The Thunderbirds would go on to shoot 53 percent from the field, compared 36 percent by the Hawks.
Sanz tallied 14 points, while Jade Blackburn (Surrey, England) chipped in 11 points.
The Hawks return home to square off with Midland University JV at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
