HAWKS SOFTBALL BEGINS SEASON WITH FOUR GAMES IN MCCOOK

MCCOOK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team took the field for their first-competitive showdowns as a team Friday and Saturday in a four-game series with McCook Community College in McCook, Nebraska. The Hawks fell in all four matchups and will have a week to prepare before hitting the diamond again.

Northeast (0-4) fell by final scores of 10-2, 13-4, 25-3 and 20-5 throughout the two days in the intrastate battles. Kelsey Choplin (Gibbon, Neb.) blasted her first career home run in a Hawks uniform Friday with a blast in Game 1. Choplin, Lauren Marker (Kearney, Neb.), Talia Bandt (Grand Island, Neb.) Malika Monroe (Valentine, Neb.) and Kya Swartz (Malmo, Neb.) all tallied their first-career hits for Northeast throughout the weekend as the freshman-filled Hawks will return home with four games worth of experience under their belt.
