NORTHEAST HEAD SOFTBALL COACH IRIS WOODHEAD STEPS DOWN

NORFOLK, Neb. – Northeast Community College Head Softball Coach Iris Woodhead has resigned from her position, it was announced Wednesday.

Woodhead had been the coach of the Hawks since the program started during the 2015-16 season. During Woodhead's tenure, there have been 35 different Region 11 All-Region selections at Northeast. Savannah Robertson was named First Team All-Region for her efforts under Woodhead in the 2017-218 season where she hit for a .471 batting average. Woodhead also coached a First Team All-Midwest All-American player, a First Team All-Region honoree, eight Second Team All-Region players and 26 Honorable Mention All-Region selections.

Among the recognition her teams have earned, Coach Woodhead has produced 12 different NJCAA All-Academic honorees over the last two seasons.

"I would like to thank Coach Woodhead for her time and commitment to the Northeast softball program for the past eight seasons, and her dedication to the young women that were involved in the softball program," Athletic Director Jerrett Mills said. "We wish her and her family the best of luck as she pursues a new opportunity."

Woodhead is grateful for everything accomplished during the last eight seasons.

"I'm very thankful for the opportunities that Northeast has provided me," Woodhead said. "Starting the softball program eight years ago has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life. I have coached so many high-character players and have been able to coach with some very special people! It's a time I will always cherish and remember. I look forward to my next chapter at Northeast. Go Hawks!"

A national search for the next softball coach will begin immediately.
