The Hawks (15-32, 4-20 ICCAC) and NIACC dueled in a quick and exciting showdown that only took one hour and 16 minutes to complete. Northeast got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning before the Trojans rallied back in the fifth frame to push two runs across. The Hawks will now wait to find out who will be their opponent in a win-or-go-home ballgame tomorrow.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head softball coach Iris Woodhead on how the matchup played out:
"What a fun game to be part of!" Woodhead said. "Emilee (Spitz) started on the mound so well and shut down a nationally ranked offense. Josie (Knust) and Tara (Koch) came in and did well too. We had a tough fifth inning when an error led to two runs."
Woodhead on the message to her group before the upcoming contest Saturday:
"Playoffs is such a fun time," Woodhead said. "We talked this morning about how the water gets really rough during postseason time. Teams either bail off the ship or grab hold of one another and fight to stay on the ship. We fought today and we will fight to stay on the ship again tomorrow."
UP NEXT:
Northeast will take on either Des Moines Area Community College or Iowa Lakes Community College at 12 p.m. tomorrow in Mason City, Iowa.
