Northeast softball falls to Southwestern on Sophomore Day
NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team was unable to get a timely hit on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Southwestern Community College 11-3 and 5-3 in ICCAC action at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk, Neb.

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team was unable to get a timely hit on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Southwestern Community College 11-3 and 5-3 in ICCAC action at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk, Neb.
Southwestern jolted to an early 3-0 lead, before adding five runs in the top of the fourth. The Hawks (3-37, 1-19 ICCAC) answered with a run in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth, but it wasn't enough.
Jacqueline Denning (Sacramento, Calif.) and Rosario Garcia (Northglenn, Colo.) each had two hits, while Garcia added a double.
Lindsey Anderson (Dunlap, Iowa) was dealt the loss, tossing six innings, allowing four earned runs off 15 hits.
Heading into the fourth inning of the final game, the Hawks and Southwestern were tied at two, until the visitors added a run in the fourth and two in the seventh to secure the victory.
Madison McKewon (Springfield, Neb.) had two hits and a double, while Garcia had a double. Anderson added two hits, while Denning notched a home run to go along with three RBI.
McKewon took the loss, tossing seven innings, allowing an earned run off eight hits.
The Hawks continue conference play, taking on Ellsworth Community College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
