VALKEMA SCORES TWICE AS NO. 3 NORTHEAST TAKES RANKED MATCH AGAINST NO. 18 SOUTHEASTERN

BURLINGTON, Iowa – The No. 3 Northeast Community College men's soccer team was in Burlington, Iowa Saturday for a ranked matchup with No. 18 Southeastern Community College. The Hawks took the contest by a final score of 3-1 to remain undefeated in conference play.

Northeast (15-1-1, 6-0 ICCAC) got on the board first as Edouard Nys put in his 25th goal of the season, which leads NJCAA DII Men's Soccer. The Blackhawks evened the battle at 1-1 before halftime, but Len Valkema (Leewarden, Netherlands) found the back of the night twice in the second half while the Hawks held up defensively for their ninth-straight victory. Northeast will return home this week as a playoff push nears with just two matches left in the regular season.

"Huge win on the road from the boys," Potter said. "We stayed composed and stayed together through all the adversity, which speaks volumes this time of year."

Potter on his team's final match at home during the regular season Wednesday against Western Iowa Tech:

"Another final ahead on Wednesday," Potter said. "We need all the support we can get in this big showdown, and we want everyone to come out in red during this final regular season home game!"

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will battle Western Iowa Tech Community College at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk. Fans are encouraged to wear red to the match.
