WATERLOO, Iowa – Sophomore Victor Galterio guided the Northeast Community College men's soccer team to victory on Wednesday, fending off Hawkeye Community College 1-0 in ICCAC action in Waterloo, Iowa.
In the first period, Rocky Goldner connected with Galterio for a header that found the back of the net to secure the win for the Hawks (4-6, 3-3 ICCAC).
"Our offense tonight was very aggressive," head coach Chad Miller said. "We went right at their back line and Hawkeye did a good job of shrinking the space. We were able to get through a few times and had some good chances, but didn't get them to go."
Tiago Da Costa finished with six shots and five shots on goal. Blake Diaz added three shots on goal, while goalie Massimiliano Simonazzi had two saves. The Hawks outshot the Red Tails 19-11.
"In the second half, we continued to push our offense and had some great chances, but didn't find the net," Miller added. "Hawkeye did a great job of pushing their attack and Massimiliano and our defense did a good job of keeping them from getting the equalizer."
The Hawks welcome Marshalltown Community College for an ICCAC match at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
