MASON CITY, Iowa – The North Iowa Area Community College Trojans were too much to handle for the Northeast Community College men's soccer team on Wednesday in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play.
The Trojans scored early and often to down the Hawks (1-5, 0-2 ICCAC) 4-1 after out-shooting Northeast 13-11 in the match.
NIACC scored its first goal in the 12th minute off a combination play that caught the Hawks defense off guard. Later in the period, Felipe Guilherme found the net to even the score.
In the second half, NIACC secured two more goals to put the game out of reach for the Hawks.
"NIACC did a great job getting our defense out of position," head coach Chad Miller said. "We have to do better defending our lanes. We also gave up on some balls that had potential to turn into something. We have struggled with that all season. We give up on balls too easy and miss an opportunity. We cannot do that in competition like this, those can be game changers."
Goalie Massimiliano Simonazzi tallied four saves in the loss.
The Hawks take on Scott Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bettendorf, Iowa.
