NORTHEAST GOLF STARTS SEASON ON RIGHT FOOT

YANKTON, S.D. – The Northeast Community College golf team took the course Thursday and Friday for their first competitive tournament of the new season. At the end of the two days the Hawks came home from Yankton, South Dakota tied for second place in the Mount Marty University Invitational.

Rockney Peck (Wisner, Neb.) led the way for the Hawks as he finished tied for sixth in the tournament. Kody Sander (Lincoln, Neb.) was the other Hawks golfer to finish in the top ten as he finished alone in ninth place.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Men's golf coach Wes Bernt's overall thoughts on the event:

"I was really happy with how they competed," Bernt said. "Rockney played great, but I don't think anyone else had their 'A' game. It was good to see the rest of the guys grind out solid rounds when they didn't have their best day."

Bernt on what he takes away from the event:

"We shot the same score last year in this tournament, which tells me we have similar talent and potential as what we had last year," Bernt said.

Bernt on what he wants his team to focus on before the next tournament:

"During the next couple of weeks we are going to spend some time on short game and work on different situations we might find ourselves in on the course," Bernt said.

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will be able to get a few weeks of practice in before they head to the Central Community College Invite at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13 at Elks Country Club in Columbus, Nebraska.
