McPHERSON, Kan. – The Northeast Community College men's golf team opened its spring portion of the 2020 season, bringing home a second-place finish at the Bethany College Spring Invite on Monday and Tuesday at the Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson, Kan.
The Hawks played only nine holes on Monday due to weather and finished the invite by playing 27 holes on Tuesday. As a team, Northeast shot a 43-over-par 603 to finish in second place. Matthew Kingston (Springfield, Neb.) led the Hawks with a two-day total of 146 to place third individually. Ty Heimes (Battle Creek, Neb.) took fifth place after carding a 148.
John Lapour (Omaha, Neb.) shot a 151 to place eighth, while Grant Sell (Gothenburg, Neb.) tallied a 158 to finish in 22nd-place.
"We played very well as a team on Tuesday," head coach Kurt Pytleski said. "We shot about 25-over par for the first nine holes of the tournament because of the weather conditions on Monday. On Tuesday, for the 27 holes we played, we were a total of 18-over par as a team which was pretty good, especially for our first tournament of the year."
The Hawks are back in action at the Doane University Spring Invitational on March 29 at the College Heights Country Club in Crete, Neb.
