AMES, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's golf team brought home a third-place finish at the Region XI Preview on Monday at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames, Iowa.
John Lapour (Omaha, Neb.) finished in a tie for 14th-place to pace the Hawks. Matthew Schaefer (Fordyce, Neb.) tied for 17th-place with a six-over par 78.
"John played well today," head coach Kurt Pytleski said. "He is coming off knee surgery and is just now rounding into golf shape. He has not played competitively in about 11 months so his play is a welcome addition to our team."
Grant Sell (Gothenburg, Neb.) tied for 17th, while Matthew Kingston (Springfield, Neb.) hit an 81 to finish in a tie for 26th. Mason Stubbs (Randolph, Neb.) finished in a five-way tie for 33rd and Dawson Sundsted (Spearfish, S.D.) hit a 16-over par to tie for 42nd-place.
"Our team score could have been much lower as almost all of our golfers had at least one triple bogey or higher on one hole which is unusual," Pytleski added.
The Hawks return to the greens at the Iowa Central Spring Invitational on Sunday at the Fort Dodge Country Club in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
