GARRETT STRONG FOR NORTHEAST WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN BATTLE WITH IOWA CENTRAL

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team was back on their home floor to take on Iowa Central Community College Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Tritons came out on top in the contest by a final score of 75-73.

Northeast (5-8, 1-5 ICCAC) was in a tight battle all night as the showdown was decided in the final seconds with a Hawks missed 3-pointer at the buzzer. Northeast was dominant on the boards as they pulled down 40 rebounds compared to just 31 from the Tritons. Vincent Garrett (Lincoln, Neb.) was the Hawks leading scorer with 20 points, six rebounds and four steals. Northeast will now take on another ranked team in No. 7 Des Moines Area Community College next as the ICCAC currently holds five of the top 15 places in the polls.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Men's Basketball Josh Clark on the big night from Vincent Garrett:

"We are looking for guys to step up," Clark said. "Tonight, we found a couple that can step into a role. Vince is consistent. He's even. He is just the guy that they look to for his composure. Tonight, we just kind of ran everything through Vince, and he found the open opportunities. We were down 11 with four minutes to go and cut it to one. We had a chance to tie, tied and didn't capitalize at the end. We run these scenarios every day in practice, and we just didn't come out on top."

Clark on the challenges that the ICCAC can present and getting over that hump:

"These freshmen were not used to this league, and now they know what it takes," Clark said. "They are responding, and we are seeing spurts of it. They came out quick against Kirkwood. Tonight, we didn't come out quick enough on defense, and now we know what we need to do."

The Hawks will be back on the road to take on No. 7 Des Moines Area Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday in Boone, Iowa.
