ALEXANDRE HAS 24 IN THE SECOND HALF AS NORTHEAST MEN’S BASKETBALL TOPS SOUTHWESTERN

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team finally took on Southwestern Community College Monday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk after weather had pushed back the meeting of the pair on two different occasions. The Hawks were victorious in the contest by a final score of 73-62.

The Hawks (11-9, 3-5 ICCAC) had an impressive performance from veteran Emaniel Alexandre (Nassau, Bahamas) as his 24 second-half points carried Northeast to a victory. Ben Hammond (Norfolk, Neb.) put in four timely 3-pointers for the Hawks as they shot 50-percent from three-point range in the second half compared to the 18.2-percent second-half percentage from the Spartans. Northeast also turned the ball over just nine times in the showdown compared to the 15 turnovers from Southwestern.

Head men's basketball coach Dan Anderson on Emaniel Alexandre's big night:

"I got really excited when he hit some 3-pointers in the second half, because that was huge for us," Anderson said. "It was also huge for Ben (Hammond) to hit some too. Mano is kind of our leader and when he is playing well, we are pretty good."

Another conference matchup awaits in just two days as the Hawks will take on Iowa Central Community College at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
