NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team welcomed Marshalltown Community College to the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk Wednesday night. The Hawks downed the Tigers by a final score of 71-68.
The Hawks (9-8, 2-4 ICCAC) had defeated Marshalltown by a final score of 71-69 back on November 26 and were able to complete their first sweep of the season with the victory. The Tigers never once led in the showdown, but they made a late rally to give Northeast a real fight down the stretch. A huge reason that the Hawks came out on top was the rebounding category as Northeast grabbed 49 boards to just the 34 from Marshalltown.
STAT SHEET:
Emaniel Alexandre (Nassau, Bahamas): 24 PTS, 11 REB
Jared Lopez (Lincoln, Neb.): 12 PTS, 7 REB, 3 STL
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head men's basketball coach Dan Anderson on finishing tonight's game down the stretch:
"We let it get a little too close at the end," Anderson. "They got a couple of baskets, but they never got a really clean look because we played really good defense. We didn't shoot the ball well, but we won because we do a good job of rebounding."
UP NEXT:
Northeast will load the bus for a trip to battle with Ellsworth Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
