Smith named ICCAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year

NORFOLK, Neb. – Drew Smith (Elkhorn, Neb.) has become a household name not only in the ICCAC conference, but nationally as well.
On Wednesday, Smith was named ICCAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, after hitting .427 in conference play, while leading the league in the top-10 in numerous categories, including hits (4th), extra-base hits (1st), doubles (9th), triples (2nd), home runs (2nd), walks (7th), RBIs (6th) and total bases (2nd).
In the field, Smith turned 20 double plays and assisted on 90 outs, while only committing eight errors.
At the NJCAA DII level, Smith currently ranks 15th with his .431 batting average in 49 games this year, 11th in slugging percentage (.813) and ninth in total bases (130).
Smith and the Hawks (32-18) will travel to Miles City, Montana to take on Miles City Community College Saturday and Sunday in a best-of-three series for the North Plains District Championship with the winner advancing to the NJCAA DII National Tournament in Enid, Okla.
