FREMONT, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team was back to its winning ways last night, defeating Midland University JV 9-3 in Fremont, Neb.

Sophomore Drew Smith (Elkhorn, Neb.) made quick work of the Midland pitching in the first inning. The Grand Canyon University commit, smacked a two-run home run to give the Hawks and early 2-0 advantage.
Northeast (11-11, 2-6 ICCAC) went on to add three runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to keep the Warrior offense at bay.
Smith finished the game, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, a home run, a run and a stolen base. Derek Botaletto (Omaha, Neb.) also hit a home run, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs and a walk. Tanner Hunt (Elkhorn, Neb.) contributed a home run and three RBI.
Andrew Shaw (Dillon, Colo.) picked up the win, tossing an inning, while allowing no earned runs off one hit.
Seven different pitchers each threw an inning in the win.
The Hawks return to conference play, taking on Ellsworth Community College in a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday in Iowa Falls, Iowa with first pitch at 1 p.m. on both days.
