ENID, Okla. – A four-run fifth inning proved to be the difference for the Northeast Community College baseball team on Sunday, picking up an 8-6 win over No. 5 Northern Oklahoma College-Enid before dropping the second game 7-3 of a doubleheader in Enid, Okla.

ENID, Okla. – A four-run fifth inning proved to be the difference for the Northeast Community College baseball team on Sunday, picking up an 8-6 win over No. 5 Northern Oklahoma College-Enid before dropping the second game 7-3 of a doubleheader in Enid, Okla.
Tanner Hunt (Elkhorn, Neb.) got things going in the fifth after smacking a double to left field, scoring Christian Dumont (Bellevue, Neb.) and Drew Smith (Elkhorn, Neb.). Two batters later, freshman Mills Macek (Blair, Neb.) drove in a pair of runs on a single to center field.
Both teams scored three runs in the second, but it was the Hawks (1-3) that took a 4-3 lead in the third before NOC added a run in the bottom of the fourth.
Macek, Hunt and Dumont all had two hits apiece, while Smith hit a towering home run in the top of the third.
MacLain Wilson (Perth, Australia) picked up the win in relief, tossing an inning, allowing a run, while striking out a batter. Lane Koetter (Grand Junction, Colo.) earned the save, throwing three innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs, while striking out three.
In the finale, the Jets took an early 4-1 lead in the fourth and went on to score in the fifth and sixth innings, keeping the Hawks' offense at bay for much of the game.
Northeast picked up three hits from Smith, including an RBI double and another RBI double from Jackson Tingwald (Ralston, Neb.).
Dylan Nicholson (Papillion, Neb.) took the loss, tossing three and one-third innings, giving up six hits, three earned runs and four walks.
Northeast returns to the diamond on Saturday, squaring off with Hesston College for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., in Hesston, Kan.
