NORFOLK, Neb. – Power-hitting infielder, Christian Dumont (Bellevue, Neb.) is headed south to continue his academic and athletic career, signing with Houston Baptist University, it was announced via Twitter on Sunday.
Last season, Dumont was a dynamic threat for the Hawks baseball team, in their first season under head coach Marcus Clapp. The Bellevue, Neb., native tallied a .366 batting average with nine home runs, 30 RBI, 16 doubles, three triples, 68 hits, 63 runs and 19 stolen bases. Dumont finished in the top-50 at the NJCAA DII level in runs, doubles, total bases and total games played. He was named Honorable Mention All-Conference and All-Academic Second Team for his efforts.
I'm so proud of Christian on his commitment," Clapp said. "He has worked hard to have this opportunity and it is well deserved. We are so excited for him and can't wait to watch him continue with his dreams."
The Huskies are led by head coach Jared Moon and compete in the Southland Conference. Last season, HBU went 29-30 and had signature wins over Baylor University, Rice University, University of Houston, Northwestern State University and Sam Houston State University.
"The coaches at HBU are awesome, they have a lot of experience on their staff and they have a lot of talent on their team," Dumont said. "They have nice facilities and Houston is a great city with warm weather. I wouldn't be where I am today without the help of the Northeast coaches and I appreciate them giving me the opportunity."
The Hawks kick-off the spring season in 2019 when they visit Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Feb. 2 in Enid, Okla.
