SOLTVEDT LEADS THE WAY FOR HAWKS IN LINCOLN
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men’s golf team headed to Hilcrest Country Club Saturday and Sunday for the Howl at the Hill tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Hawks finished seventh as a team in the two-day event.
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's golf team headed to Hilcrest Country Club Saturday and Sunday for the Howl at the Hill tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Hawks finished seventh as a team in the two-day event.
Northeast was led over the weekend by Gunther Soltvedt (Eagle, Colo.) as the freshman took the lead of the tournament early, finished Day 1 in a tie for fourth place and wrapped up Day 2 in a tie for 10th. Gage Burns (Creighton, Neb.) and Brett Leonard (Saskatchewan, Canda) were two other top performers for the Hawks as they both ended in a tie for 25th with two-day totals of 161. Northeast has just one more event left in the regular season before battling in the North Central District Tournament to see who heads to nationals from Region 11.

Head Men's Golf Coach Ty Heimes on how the tournament played out:
"We played pretty well that first day," Heimes said. "Struggled a little finishing, but overall, pretty good. The course was playing tough on Day 2. We didn't have our best, but they competed and grinded it out."
Heimes on his squad rounding into form with the most important events of the season nearing:
"I'm excited," Heimes said. "We have played some tough courses and tough competition. We have a couple weeks to get prepared for regionals. The guys are excited to go and compete against the region."

The Hawks will hit the road again this weekend for their second tournament of the year at Gates Park Golf Course at the Waterloo Intercollegiate on Friday and Saturday in Waterloo, Iowa.
